With the rapid development of the blockchain and cryptocurrency field, more and more women are entering this field and showing their talent and ability. As a senior crypto trader, Screw has rich trading experience and industry resources in the encryption field. In this series of interviews with the theme of ‘Women Power in the Crypto World’, Gate.io She will delve into her experience and experience in the cryptocurrency field, and share her views on how women should approach and enter the crypto industry.
Q1. Can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
I am a SOLO HFT 100% Maker.
Q2. Why choose the blockchain/cryptocurrency industry, what attracts you to become a member of the blockchain industry?
Encryption is the perfect footnote to this era of human civilization. Despite countless attempts to slay the dragons that turned dragon slayers into dragons, humanity still emits a light as free as encryption. There are many unknown aspects to the encrypted society experiment, and it will also go through numerous harsh crackdowns from the Fiat world, far from the earth-shattering wealth creation of the past. But encryption is still a spark of freedom. Even if it is eroded and weakened by time, I cannot find any grand explorations that can compare to dedicating oneself to encryption as a career.
Q3. Can you share your growth story in the crypto world?
In the early days of industry activities, as Asian-Americans, they were often considered second-generation immigrants from English-speaking countries, until the spoken language burst the bubble. The logic of the discrimination was simple, the participants did not believe that native-born mainlanders could do HFT. It seems that in Southeast Asian countries not long after the end of the war, the communication infrastructure of some cities has changed operators every 5 kilometers, and higher education cannot cultivate people in ten years. In 2019, the three major law firms successively opened the PostOnly interface, allowing Maker to truly enter the market and provide popular services. I am lucky to be able to grow with the crypto market, and in the half year that the three major exchanges have been on the perpetual contract products, the trading scale of the whole line has stabilized in the top 2%. Although the current discourse power of the mainstream historical narrative of mankind is in the West, it does not mean that everything will be “white” in the future. In the crypto world, Asians are as efficient as shackles become lighter. And “words must be beautiful” can no longer afford to be pioneers and credibility, such as the imperial , such as the superstitious warning that you can’t bring bananas on the ship so far, such as SBF.
Q4. Have you encountered any major challenges or turning points in your career development, and how did you overcome them?
Speaking of FTX, I experienced unprecedented difficulties when opening an account before. Even with documents in hand, I still couldn’t log in from time to time. In the fifth round of KYC, I even had to write down my trading history and take photos. My cousin, who runs a supermarket in my hometown, registered at the same time and has never been asked to do these things. All of this is because I am a woman. This is the biggest challenge I have encountered in this industry, not being able to trade due to gender. It was not until the 1960s that women in the United States were allowed to open bank accounts, and it was not until 1975 that the UK caught up with the United States and gave women the same rights. Binance, OKX, Gate, Huobi I have never had such a difficulty that needs to be overcome. My response is natural, and the market will decide where to trade for me in terms of cost and time. Looking back at the DAO form naturally derived from the crypto community, I really appreciate it. Remote work from all corners of the world, efficiency, quality, consensus, and collaboration, all irrelevant to gender, all matters handled in a businesslike manner, you can fully be yourself.
Q5. How do you think blockchain companies should attract more female users and employees to participate (promote gender equality in the industry), and build a more diverse and inclusive eco?
Crypto is a new industry that changes very quickly, and it suits people with a high sense of consensus capitalism, both investors and practitioners. For most of my conversations, I want to have no gender position, because individualism is the only way I think gender equality is the answer. Picking a particular group for particular support only inspires prejudice against opposing groups. Analogous to the persistence of diversity in racism, black people are questioned in the job market when they graduate because of the “fairness” of education. Crypto is not a manual industry, and if women are hired because of gender ratio restrictions in some policies, their achievements will also be diluted by the eyes of the world. Recall Edwin Locke’s fictional illustration that employers considering employee candidates tend to care about:
Q6. Do you have anything to say to women who want to get in touch with or enter the blockchain industry?
The encryption market never sleeps, it’s active around the world at all times. May our feet carry us thousands of miles and bring us back home.
