A man in Tennessee named Kirk West, 58 years old, was arrested on July 24 at Nashville airport for stealing approximately 400,000 USD in cash and over 11 million USD in cryptocurrency from his partner, Nancy Jones – the widow of singer George Jones.

According to the complaint, West took the safe from Nancy's house in Franklin at the end of June, which contained a cold wallet holding over 5.5 million XRP. When arrested, the value of the assets had increased to 17 million USD. Nancy's lawyer has recovered about 5 million XRP, while the remaining part worth 1.5 million USD is still missing. West was previously convicted of bank fraud in 2016 and was fully supported by Nancy for all living and legal expenses. After suspecting fraud, Nancy discovered the assets were missing. West is charged with theft, with a bail set at 1 million USD, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 23.
