When Pi Coin Decreases, Pi Network Implements a Major Security Overhaul
Pi Coin has fallen 22% this week, continuing its deeper downward trend as the price has now dropped over 65% on the monthly chart. This means that the price of Pi Coin has now fallen below $0.080 for the first time since the end of February when the mainnet officially launched. Our prediction for today's Pi Coin price does not show a positive outlook for holders as the test of the $0.075 level still remains a possibility for the weekly close. But at the same time, what is the Pi Network team doing? They just released a security update. Pi Network is making changes to its account security system. So far, Pi accounts primarily use phone numbers as the unique identifier. Although this approach seemed convenient at first, over time it has created many issues. SMS verification via phone numbers proves to be unreliable and costly. Due to the global nature of the Pi community, text message communication between users and servers is often disrupted by telecommunications regulations, carrier policies, and service limitations that vary across different regions.
Email-Based 2FA: New Security Standard With these challenges and the current phase of the network with more reliable verification methods such as KYC and activity checks, Pi Network is transitioning to email-based two-factor authentication (2FA). This change not only addresses previous issues but also enhances overall security through its two-factor approach. To make this conversion process effective, all users need to have a verified email address in their profile. However, this poses many challenges as many users have never added an email to their account, entered the wrong email, lost access to their previous email, or shared their email address with family members who also have a Pi account. Because there is no need to add an email during the account creation process and this represents a significant change in the security protocol, Pi Network needs to conduct thorough analysis before allowing users to move. They have tested how users add and verify email addresses and complete 2FA to ensure the integrity of account security. In some cases, additional verification steps are required, such as checking activity status or SMS verification. This process requires a temporary suspension of account transfers. Currently, Pi Network has announced that transfers have resumed and will gradually expand as more users complete email-based 2FA verification and system-level checks. The network emphasizes its commitment to a secure transition and appreciates the patience of users as these account security enhancements are rolled out across the platform. Will this be enough for the price of Pi Coin to recover? The answer is no, at least for now.
