The new chairman of the Ethereum Foundation, Miyagotchi, elaborates on the vision for future development.
Ethereum Foundation New Chairman Looks to Future Development Directions
Recently, the Ethereum Foundation has undergone significant personnel changes. After a year of transition, Aya Miyagotchi has officially been promoted to the position of Foundation Chair. In a public letter released after her appointment, Miyagotchi outlined her plans and vision for the future of the Foundation.
Miyagotchi stated that, as the new chairperson, she will continue to support the foundation's institutional relationships and is committed to expanding the vision and cultural influence of Ethereum. She emphasized that the true value of Ethereum lies in the fact that it belongs to everyone and is not controlled by any single entity. This open and inclusive culture allows Ethereum to continuously grow and thrive amid differences.
The new chairperson referenced Stewart Brand's "Pace Layering" theory to explain her views on Ethereum. She believes that for Ethereum to be integrated into the world structure in the long term, it needs to develop at different speeds across various layers. The foundation's role is not to control or dominate all areas, but to uphold Ethereum's core values and ensure its integrity as a broad ecosystem of people, ideas, and values.
Miyagotchi emphasizes the foundation's "subtraction philosophy". This is not simple minimalism, but a design thinking approach focused on results, aimed at creating a more balanced and decentralized landscape. In this way, the foundation has helped incubate numerous new projects, organizations, and talents, promoting Ethereum to become one of the largest ecosystems.
In terms of research and infrastructure, the foundation has taken several measures to maintain the decentralized characteristics of Ethereum. For example, managing rather than controlling core development meetings, promoting client diversification, and supporting cross-team collaboration. The hosting of events such as Devcon and Devconnect also reflects this concept, providing space for different communities to develop autonomously.
Miyagotchi pointed out that the foundation must evolve continuously like Ethereum itself, but it should avoid developing like traditional companies. The foundation's goal is not to make itself "win", but to ensure that Ethereum achieves long-term success while adhering to its core values.
Looking back at the scene seven years ago when she joined the foundation, Miyagotchi was impressed by the tremendous growth of the Ethereum ecosystem. She likened Ethereum to an "infinite garden," whose resilience and diversity have allowed it to continuously thrive. Today, Ethereum has become a flourishing ecosystem shaped by core developers, researchers, Layer 2 teams, application developers, and local communities.
Finally, Miyagotchi expressed gratitude to all supporters, emphasizing that cultural development, although slow, provides a solid foundation for everything. She promised to continue nurturing Ethereum's unique culture and to act as a bridge connecting Ethereum with the broader global community.
