Lyft to Leverage Solana DePIN Project Hivemapper Through Bee Maps
Lyft, a ride-sharing company with over 2 million drivers, will leverage Hivemapper, a Solana-based DePIN application, as a low-level, street-focused mapping solution. Lyft will implement solutions provided by Bee Maps, a company that utilizes Hivemapper-based software.
Lyft Partners With Bee Maps to Capture Street-Level Mapping Data
Lyft, a ridesharing company with over 2 million drivers in the U.S. and Canada, has decided to employ Hivemapper, a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) project to update its street-level map data.
According to a blog post, Lyft recently partnered with Bee Maps, a solutions provider that employs Hivemapper to capture fresh, street-level mapping data to aid in navigation tasks. Bee Maps stated that, while this was announced recently, the two parties had been collaborating since 2024, and included coordination across map engineering team members in the U.S. and Europe.
Implementing Hivemapper through Bee Maps will aid drivers and riders in streamlining the transportation experience using fresh and accurate street-level data provided in a decentralized manner. Lyft might also be preparing to launch autonomous riding solutions relying on these maps to achieve more intelligent mobility.
Hivemapper highlighted the relevance of this development, noting that it will allow Lyft to constantly update its map data. “We’re proud to see Lyft relying on our network to help build and maintain its maps. The best ride-hailing marketplaces want the freshest map data,” Hivemapper declared.
Ariel Seidman, co-founder and CEO of Bee Maps, stated that this movement reinforces that new decentralized mapping has overcome old mapping solutions, which lack the means to update their data. Due to this limitation, the latter are unable to detect detours, signage, road features, or new construction details relevant for achieving efficient navigation and optimum ride times.
Seidman stated:
On May 8, Hivemaps reached a milestone, registering over 500 million kilometers mapped since its inception.
